A Bit of Springdale History

Springdale was settled in the 1830s by farmers and settlers drawn to its fertile land and natural resources. Originally known as Shiloh, the area was renamed due to the presence of a large spring. In the late 1800s, the arrival of the railroad helped establish Springdale as a major transportation hub, and new businesses like sawmills and cotton gins were founded. Several schools and churches were established, fostering community and civic pride.

In 1911, Springdale hosted the first county fair in Arkansas, which continued until the 1960s when it moved to a larger location in Fayetteville. In the mid-1900s, the establishment of several major companies, including Tyson Foods, J.B. Hunt Transport Services, and the Northwest Medical Center, led to significant growth and development.

Today, Springdale is a vibrant and diverse city with a rich history and promising future. The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History showcases the region’s culture and history, while the nearby Ozark Mountains and Beaver Lake provide beautiful natural scenery.
